As human beings we all have dreams, so it is of the utmost importance that if we want the chance to see those dreams become reality we must act on them.
Update: With everything happening in the world today it is of the upmost importance to know that all setbacks are setups for even greater comebacks and now, with everyone in quarantine there are absolutely no excuses as to why we can’t write down our goals to achieve success in life! Time is our greatest resource and the most valuable thing we have in life because we do not get it back.
In this I Live Life blog post you will learn how to set up goals for success!
This how you set up goals the S.M.A.R.T. way.
S.M.A.R.T. stands for Specific. Measurable. Attainable. Realistic. Timeline.
Keep in mind that every word in the acronym S.M.A.R.T. goes together. We want our goals to be specific enough that we can envision ourselves achieving them. Our goals should be measurable, meaning that that we should be able to know when we’re moving forward, towards the finish line, in this case achieving our goals. Make your goals attainable. Don’t get me wrong, it is very important to have big dreams for yourself, I am simply saying you have to set achievable goals that will get you to making your big dream a reality. You know yourself better than anyone, so be real with yourself here because a realistic goal for you might be an unrealistic one for someone else. Give yourself a timeline and you’ll find yourself working even harder than you would have thought because you’e challenging yourself and pushing yourself to succeed and achieve your goals!
SMART goals are specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and they have a timeline.
Let’s say your goal is to get better grades in school, I’m using this example because as a teacher I know a ton of students have that goal.
Using the SMART technique, it is more powerful to have that goal be “I will have better grades on my next report card that comes out on Fri., March 8, 2020”.
You see how setting a goal using the SMART method is more concrete, making it more powerful?
Creating action steps for your goals are a great way to attack them to ensure you achieve them because you are planning out how you will act on them.
Using the above goal to get better grades as an example, some steps you might want to take are studying 3 times a week for each class and work hard in each of them or to talk to your teachers or professors to make sure you are understanding what is being taught and are on track and stay on track for a great grade.
Hold yourself accountable for your actions and don’t make dumb excuses why you can’t accomplish your goals. Attack your goals like you life depends on it! If you quit just one time it will snowball and become a habit. Never quit!
Whether your goal is to change your mindset, find balance between your personal life and work life (yes there is a difference) or learn on your own terms, I hope this blog post will help you crush your goals!
