Newtown High School football takes the win with a walk-off touchdown in the state championship! The last time that the Newtown football team clinched the state title was in 1992. The win tonight for the Hawks was huge and meant a lot because it happened on the 7th anniversary of the day we all know as a day to honor the 26 Sandy Hook Elementary School angels. NHS turned it on in the last two quarters because the game was tied 7-7 until the very last play!
After the win Newtown coach Bobby Pattinson said, “Absolutely amazing.” “I’m so proud of my kids for not giving up. We had moments in that game where it didn’t look too good for Newtown … I’m so proud of the kids. I couldn’t be happier.”
“They bought in, they believed, they put in the effort,” Pattinson said. The Newtown Nighthawks worked hard and deserve to be your 2019 CT state champions after their 13-7 victory over Darien!
