Well, to answer that I will give you an example by telling you about a story about optimism.

Positive Affirmations are like the story The Little Engine That Could. Now, if you don’t know the classic story from the 1930’s, it’s about an optimistic train that one morning was waiting to hear what he should do next when a long train of freight-cars asked a large engine to take it over a hill. “I can’t, that is too much a pull for me”, said the train. Then the little engine asked another train and another, only to hear excuses. Well, after all that discouragement, the train asked a little switch engine to bring it up the hill and down on the other side. “I think I can”, puffed the little locomotive, and put itself in front of the great heavy train. As it went on the little engine kept bravely puffing faster and faster, “I think I can, I think I can, I think I can.” As it neared the top of the grade (the top of the hill), which had so discouraged the larger engines, it went more slowly. However, it still kept saying, “I—think—I—can, I—think—I—can.” It reached the top by drawing on bravery and then went on down the grade, congratulating itself by saying, “I thought I could, I thought I could.”

Nice story, right? Do you know why the main character is a little engine? It’s because it is a metaphor of how we are all like an engine. We are what we put into ourselves. If you own an expensive car, you’re not going to fill it up with the cheap gasoline right? You’re going to buy the premium, top of the line gas. Well, the same could be applied to us. If we want to feel better, be more positive, and motivated to Keep Moving Forward, we have to fill ourselves with positive fuel and learn how to boost ourselves up to stay motivated.

 

Now that you know what positive affirmations are and why they are important here is a list of positive affirmations that will help you with optimism and will boost your self-esteem. I want you to say these out loud and write them down so you not only see them but you also confirm it with yourself by saying and writing it down.
